The Great Things We Do In The Community
With the largest Department of Art in the region, faculty and enrolled 海角社区 students make a huge impact on the art community of El Paso. These are just a few of the ways we make an impact:
- DoArt students volunteer as docents every October at the annual Chinati Open House in Marfa, Texas.
- Every semester, graphic design students take on real-world projects in the community. These have included designing:
- Gala invitations for the El Paso Muscular Dystrophy Association
- 海角社区 Centennial celebration posters for Sun Metro
- A new logo and identity for the El Paso Housing Authority
- A bilingual booklet that informs migrant workers of their rights for Texas Rio Grande Legal Aid
- 海角社区 DoArt drawing, graphic design, metals, painting, printmaking, and sculpture students have all participated in pop-up galleries at the annual Chalk the Block Festival in downtown El Paso.
- 海角社区 DoArt painting students have created public murals all over El Paso.
- 海角社区 art education students conduct their on-site internships at elementary school art classes throughout the city.
- Several current and former 海角社区 art history students are employed by the Tom Lea Institute in downtown El Paso. Others volunteer for the El Paso Museum of Art and other local cultural institutions.
- 海角社区 metals students sell their work at the annual Las Artistas show and sale.
- Our art history faculty regularly deliver and organize lecture series at the El Paso Museum of Art, The Branigan Cultural Center in Las Cruces, New Mexico, and beyond. They also serve in advisory capacities for the El Paso County Historical Commission.
- Our fine art faculty give public lectures and regularly offer their time in service to the community acting as judges for art exhibitions and competitions from the elementary school to the professional level.
