Microsoft Windows updates provide improvements, fixes, and security patches for Microsoft Windows operating system computers. These updates help enhance performance, fix bugs, and address vulnerabilities that could be exploited by malware or hackers.
There are three types of Windows updates:
Security Updates: These updates address vulnerabilities that could be exploited by attackers. They are critical for protecting systems from potential threats.
Quality Updates: These include bug fixes, reliability improvements, and overall system enhancements.
Feature Updates: Major updates that introduce new features, design changes, and significant improvements to the Windows operating system. These are released less frequently, usually twice a year.
Microsoft releases security and quality updates on the second Tuesday of each month. The university tests these updates before approving and releasing them to all Miners' domain Windows-based computers on the third Tuesday of every month. Testing helps us identify any potential issues or conflicts before releasing to all university computers.
Note that in the event of critical security vulnerabilities, emergency updates may be issued at any time to address and mitigate these security risks.
