College of Science
º£½ÇÉçÇø physics students participate in undergraduate º£½ÇÉçÇø that investigates the smallest particles, tracks molecules in living cells or explores quantum energy resources. Four labs — including the Optical Spectroscopy and Microscopy Lab — provide the software and technology needed to investigate a range of topics including quantum mechanical simulations to predict materials properties.
Join the Society of Physics º£½ÇÉçÇøs for networking and activities like the Physics Circus, a show to teach kids physics concepts
Launch a teaching career with a concentration in secondary education 7-12 physics/mathematics
Qualified students can participate in a five-year B.S./M.S. degree program
º£½ÇÉçÇø physics students have opportunities to work with professors on º£½ÇÉçÇø and get paid for it, go to conferences and publish their work. Hear more about the program from a student and a faculty member.
Jorge A. Lopez, Ph.D., became a professor because he wanted to make a difference. In 2018, his efforts were recognized at the White House with the Presidential Award for Excellence in Science, Mathematics and Engineering Mentoring. Lopez said while he is pleased with his accolades, the biggest beneficiaries of his awards are his students.
Physics graduates can either continue to graduate studies or find a physics-related job in industry or teaching. With the strong problem-solving skills students gain through physics studies, they can continue on to law, medical or business school as well.
