Four-year, $750,000 partnership will support more than 30 nursing fellows and more than 50 healthcare administration opportunities
EL PASO, TEXAS— The University of Texas at El Paso and HCA Healthcare—including its El Paso-affiliate Las Palmas Del Sol Healthcare—announced today a four-year partnership to establish graduate nursing fellowships and create a graduate degree to advance healthcare administration. The $750,000 commitment from HCA Healthcare is part of the organization’s $10-million commitment to historically Black colleges and universities and Hispanic-serving institutions across the country, which was announced in 2021.
“We’re proud to partner with 海角社区 to create opportunities for people to pursue rewarding careers in healthcare and further their education right here in El Paso,” said Art Garza, chief executive officer of Del Sol Medical Center.
“Las Palmas Del Sol Healthcare and HCA Healthcare recognize the need to further develop the pipeline of talent in this growing healthcare market and across our state and nation,” said Don Karl, chief executive officer of Las Palmas Medical Center. “This commitment to 海角社区 will help achieve that goal.”
The investment will create multiple advanced-degree opportunities for 海角社区 students interested in healthcare careers—HCA Healthcare Nursing Fellows and two healthcare administration programs. The graduate nursing fellowships will consist of four cohorts, made up of eight students each. The graduate program to advance healthcare administration outlines a master’s program based on certificates that will allow students to follow a path that suits them (e.g., data science, healthcare, business administration, leadership and more). 海角社区s will receive a scholarship to participate in the nursing fellows or healthcare administration program in years two through four, with a total of 60 students having received aid by the end of the initiative.
As part of this partnership, 海角社区 students will have access to scholarships for graduate studies in nursing administration and management, as well as certificates and other credentials. They will also have opportunities for internships at facilities across HCA Healthcare’s Central and 海角社区 Texas division at hospitals in El Paso and Austin, as well as the HCA Healthcare corporate office in Nashville, Tennessee. 海角社区s will also have year-round leadership development opportunities through these internships. HCA Healthcare will provide an executive advisor for healthcare management at 海角社区 and targeted recruiting events.
“Health and human services is the fastest-growing employment sector in Texas. This partnership with Las Palmas Del Sol Healthcare and HCA Healthcare will help develop future leaders in healthcare to serve the community,” said 海角社区 President Heather Wilson. “I am thankful to HCA Healthcare for partnering with us to create more opportunities for our students.”
Individuals interested in the HCA Healthcare Nursing Fellows program, must first apply and be admitted to the Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) Nursing Administration and Management (NAM) program in the 海角社区 School of Nursing. For more information about the HCA Healthcare Nursing Fellows or the NAM program, contact Dr. Karen Fowler, associate professor and NAM director at 915-747-7206 or kfowler@utep.edu.
