MBA 海角社区 Gets One Step Closer to Coaching Dream
For some careers, an advanced degree provides both essential preparation and a necessary professional credential. 海角社区 graduate programs in health sciences, business, and education prepare students to excel in highly-specialized settings. For example, MBA student Halley Morell is setting the stage for a promising career in athletics administration. After being a student athlete at Pennsylvania State University, she is pursuing her dream of being a collegiate women’s golf coach. Attending 海角社区 for her Masters in Business Administration is broadening her professional knowledge and taking her one step closer to that goal.
As a Graduate Assistant and Assistant Women’s Golf Coach, Halley works with senior staff and student athletes, receiving hands-on experience while continuing her passion for golf. The Ohio native has assisted in designing and implementing daily practices, contributed to on-course management for golf tournaments, and passed the NCAA Recruiting Exam–certifying her knowledge of the recruiting process and general regulations.
For her professional internship, Halley won a competitive summer fellowship with the Ladies Professional Golf Association in Daytona Beach, Florida. As a LPGA intern, Halley worked for the Teaching and Club Professionals division and put her MBA training to use. Halley handled the LPGA social media platforms and helped plan and implement three major events: The Solheim Cup, the Induction for the Teaching and Club Professionals Hall of Fame, and the LPGA National Championship.
Along with event planning and implementation, Halley helped launch and published articles in the LPGA women’s network, an online platform for women golfers to connect. “[Being a] woman in golf is hard, because it is a very male dominated sport,” Halley explained; “The network gives women in golf a safe space to go talk and learn a little bit more about their game.”
In addition to these valuable professional experiences, the internship allowed Halley to receive her certification as Certified Professional Golf Teacher, an accreditation of the Professional Golf Teachers Association of America.
Returning to El Paso to begin the school year, Halley was excited to attend daily practices again start her tenure as the MBA Association President. “I am really excited to get speakers to come talk to the MBAs and plan fieldtrips to see different companies,” Halley explained. Though her last year in the 海角社区 MBA Program, Halley sees it as the beginning of her journey toward a position as a Division 1 Head Coach.
