Master of Education in Curriculum & Instruction (M. ED. in C&I)
[Hybrid]
海角社区’s M.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction program is a hybrid, 36-credit hour degree designed for individuals who wish to pursue graduate studies focused on the content deemed important for student learning (i.e., curriculum) and the process by which learning is achieved (i.e., instruction). The M.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction program has two defined degree concentrations, allowing students to focus on Educational Technology in PK-12 and other educational settings or to earn the graduate credential needed to engage in Dual Credit Teaching. Additional concentrations under the M.Ed. in Curriculum and Instructions may be devised in consultation with faculty advisors. This degree program can be completed in as little as 20-24 months.
Concentration in Educational Technology (M.Ed. in C & I- Ed Tech)
The M.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction with a concentration in Educational Technology prepares professionals (licensed or un-licensed) seeking to take on Educational Technology leadership roles in PK-12 and other educational settings. This program is designed to train highly skilled instructional technologists and instructional designers who enhance traditional education models with the thoughtful application of modern technologies and related processes and pedagogies. 海角社区s in the program gain the knowledge needed to design, develop, implement and evaluate technology-rich learning environments in culturally and linguistically diverse contexts, with the goal of increasing student engagement, motivation and active learning.
Concentration in Dual Credit Teaching (M.Ed. in C & I- DC)
The M.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction with a concentration in Dual Credit Teaching prepares secondary teachers with the credential needed to teach college level courses in the context of dual credit programs. To earn this degree, students in this program combine required and elective graduate education courses with courses taken to earn a graduate certificate in a specific content area. Dual Credit Teaching content areas include: Communication, English, Political Science, Math, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, History and Psychology.
Special note: In addition to the two defined concentrations above, students may work with graduate faculty to design a program of study to earn a M.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction with a concentration in Mathematics Education, Science Education, Engineering Education or Social Studies Education. For more information on designing a program of study under this degree in one of these areas, please contact tedgrad@utep.edu.

Degree Requirements and Courses:
To earn a M.Ed. in Curriculum & Instruction, 海角社区 requires for graduation: 1) successful completion of 36 hours of required coursework with a grade of “C” or better; 2) completion and passing of a Comprehensive Exam; and 3) a final GPA of 3.0 or higher [Graduate School Requirement].
Comprehensive Exam Requirement: The comprehensive exam is taken in the last semester/when the student is 6 or less credits away from completing all coursework in the program. The intent of the comprehensive exam is to provide students the opportunity to synthesize and apply core content knowledge gained in the program and to demonstrate their academic and professional skill development in the field. The comprehensive exam consists of two parts: part 1 is based on four TED Professional Development Core courses and part 2 is based on the area of concentration (either Educational Technology or Dual Credit Teaching or other identified content area).
During the final semester of coursework, students will meet virtually with the Teacher Education Department Graduate Studies Coordinator for an audit and verification of coursework and final GPA, and for verification of completion of the application for graduation with 海角社区’s Graduate School office.
