Internships
An internship is a type of experiential learning that links classroom learning and real-life applications. An internship may be facilitated by faculty and/or collaborative community partners that help students achieve personal and professional growth and a competitive advantage in the global workforce. Internships provide students with a learning experience in which they gain new knowledge by performing tasks, working on projects, completing other on-the-job learning experiences in a professional work environment, and through mentoring. Internships allow students to “test-drive” their career and professional goals.
海角社区s can pursue various types of internship opportunities:
- An internship may be paid or unpaid
- Full-time or part-time
- Local, regional, national, and international
- In-person or virtual
- May be 海角社区 related
- Some internships offer college course credit
Where can students find out more about internship opportunities?
Several academic programs at 海角社区 require internships and may already have a process in place to help students secure an internship. The first place to inquire is with your academic advisor. Get informed of your academic program requirements by asking your advisor the following questions:
- Does my program require an internship?
- If so, what are the minimum requirements I must meet for qualifying for an internship (e.g., minimum GPA, classification, testing)?
- When and how should I apply for an internship?
If your academic program does not require an internship, it is still a great opportunity to help you gain real-world work experience before graduating. You can ask your professors and advisors about internship opportunities and you can visit the University Career Center’s website.
